Last week, I joined Network Rail at Duffield Train Station to see the fantastic improvements to the footbridge which have now been completed. Extension work has been carried out, including replacing the balustrades, new stair treads, repainting the steelwork and new drainage on the footbridge and platform level. In addition, new cross girder beams have been installed and concrete, waterproofing and tarmac has been replaced.
However, the stairs are still extremely steep, making the station unusable for some and particularly those with disabilities. We need a lift installed, for which I will continue to campaign.
Credit where it is due - Network Rail has worked hard to minimise disruption for nearby residents. So much so that one local resident supplied the workforce with drinks and cakes when they were working at the site!
