Today I presented my Ten Minute Rule Bill in the House of Commons, designed to stop child sex abusers at the UK Border. My proposed new law would make it an offence for somebody to refuse access to a digital device when there is reasonable suspicion it contains child sex abuse material.
Currently, outdated laws allow child sexual predators to enter or leave the UK while in possession of illegal material on their digital devices because the UK Border Force does not have the power to access them. The law in this area dates back to the 1970s, when this material would amount to a stack of polaroid pictures - and is in desperate need of an update. You can watch my full speech here.
