On Friday, 18 months after I first met the Minister for Small Business, Consumer and Labour Markets to discuss the impending closure of Belper’s last high street bank and the challenges this would present to my constituents, I was delighted to officially open the town’s new Banking Hub. Thank you to Cash Access for their outstanding support on this project, and for inviting me to perform the official opening. Thanks must also go to John Nelson, Michael Greatbatch, and my team for their efforts in making the new Belper Banking Hub a reality.
Many consumers and small businesses across the UK still depend on cash and face-to-face banking services particularly the elderly, the vulnerable and those without transport. The Banking Hub, situated at 46-48 King Street, will be open Monday-Friday, 9.00 a.m.-5.00 p.m. and Barclays, NatWest, HSBC, Lloyds and Santander will provide everyday banking services on a scheduled day each week.
My hope is that more banking hubs will now be rolled out to other areas of the community in the future.
