Last week, I was delighted to have the opportunity to present Terry Hall with a Points of Light award and letter from the Prime Minister.
Terry served for 30 years in the Royal Navy, and since then has been extremely influential in organising the Veterans’ community in Mid Derbyshire.
He has established a memorial in Stanley village to the crew of the W5795 Wellington Bomber who were lost in a crash in 1942. He ensures that those crew members are remembered and honoured by co-ordinating an annual parade and memorial service, and arranging flypasts.
Terry has also been a focal point for veterans in rural Derbyshire, supporting the Poppy Appeal for over 50 years, and also bringing together the ‘Derbyshire Submariners’ magazine for the whole community.
In presenting Terry with his award last week, I was pleased to be able to thank him personally for all that he does for his community and for being a point of light in Derbyshire.
