Every year, the House of Commons debates the budgets for government departments, and during the debate on the spending of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office in relation to international aid, I gave a speech.
I have served on the International Development Committee in Parliament ever since I was first elected, and recently visited Rwanda to see first-hand some of the programmes funded by British aid which support the world’s poorest.
I spoke about neglected tropical diseases, which cause great pain and suffering – and economic crises for families – all around the world, and the steps which governments can and should do to help.
