On Saturday I was pleased to attend a cross-community rally in support of Ukraine in Derby.
I am particularly concerned for the families and friends of our Ukrainian friends who are such an important part of the Derby community, and call on Russia to immediate cease their terrible invasion.
I was delighted to receive the Ukrainian Order of Merit in 2020 from then-Prime Minister of Ukraine, Oleksiy Honcharuk. I have campaigned since 2013 on recognition of the Holodomor genocide in Ukraine, and the award was ‘a symbol of the deep gratitude of the Ukrainians for the principled stand in support of Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence’.
This Russian incursion into Ukraine’s territory, threatening their sovereignty and independence, is to be condemned in the strongest terms.
