This week I received the end-of-year statistics on unemployment in Mid Derbyshire from the House of Commons Library.
I’m very glad to report that 130 more people are in work than one year ago, and that the youth unemployment figure has also fallen by more than 10% since December 2021. The claimant rate in Mid Derbyshire amongst 16-64 year olds is less than half of the overall UK claimant rate.
The government is committed to ensuring more job opportunities, and investments like the £20 million secured for the Assembly Rooms transformation, and the development of SmartParc in Mid Derbyshire, will only help to continue this trend.
I am glad that the economy is beginning to bounce back from the dual shocks of Covid and the Ukraine crisis, and an increase in the number of people in work is extremely encouraging as the government continues to implement its 5-step plan of the people’s priorities – including growing the economy and halving inflation.
