This weekend, Mid Derbyshire has come together to celebrate the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III.
I was delighted last week to attend an event in Parliament where the King attended and met with MPs, Peers and House of Commons staff in advance of the coronation. There, the Speaker’s state coach was on display, which is the traditional vehicle of the Speaker on state occasions.
I watched the coronation on television in Mid Derbyshire on Saturday, proud of the incredible ceremony and pomp and circumstance which was delivered by the thousands of organisers, volunteers, servicemen and security forces, keeping everyone safe and allowing millions to enjoy the occasion in London and around the country.
Over the weekend, it was wonderful to see the outpouring of community spirit all across Mid Derbyshire. I visited a coronation street party in Allestree, complete with coronation quiche and bunting, entertainment for children and lots of food and drink for all.
I also spoke to BBC Radio Derby on Wednesday of last week, looking forward to the coronation and reflecting on the occasions His Majesty has visited Derbyshire, including when I was Mayor.
God save the King!
