Today, Pauline Latham OBE MP and eighteen other MPs from across the East Midlands wrote to the Transport Secretary, expressing their support for Derby’s bid to host the Headquarters of Great British Railways.
The cross-party group of MPs from Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, and Staffordshire set out why Derby’s central location, its rail history, and the wealth of sector expertise which already exists in the city would make it the perfect location for Great British Railways. The letter notes the strength of support from across the region, including 40 local authorities, 3 universities and a huge number of businesses in the rail, automotive and aviation sectors.
The Rail Minister visited Derby on 10 August to hear more about Derby’s bid, and there is currently a public vote taking place at https://gbrtt.co.uk/hq-competition-public-vote/
Pauline Latham OBE MP said: “I am delighted at the support which colleagues from all across the region have given to the bid, because they recognise not only that Derby is the best location for GBR’s headquarters, but also because they know that it will benefit both GBR, Derby and the wider region in the long term. This is a formidable amount of parliamentary support, stretched across four countries, at least six upper tier authorities, and representing the whole of the region”.
