The Great Northern Greenway is a partially complete cycle-route between north Derby and Breadsall which will eventually connect Derby City with Ilkeston. I joined Sustrans East Midlands, a charity looking after all 12,000 miles of the National Cycle Network, on a visit to the route where we discussed the project's progress.
There is so much to see in Mid-Derbyshire, and some of the most beautiful parts are best seen by foot or on two wheels – including Allestree Park, which will see additional footfall from this route. The rewilding project at the park, funded by the National Lottery, is now underway and I encourage everyone to visit and take part in the community opportunities available there.
