I was thrilled to attend Christmas lights switching on ceremonies this weekend at Belper, Ockbrook, Borrowash and Little Eaton.
Christmas is a fantastic time of year for communities to come together and celebrate.
I was delighted to be asked to switch on the Christmas lights in Borrowash. It was a very cold evening but lots of people braved the weather to enjoy the start of the Christmas period. Just before the formal switch-on, the Silver Prize Band played hymns and a wonderful Santa’s Grotto was opened. There were children’s characters interacting with the crowd and lots of stalls and rides for everyone to enjoy.
I was asked to open the event not only in my capacity as local MP but also as one of the founders of the Aortic Dissection Charitable Trust. A charity which I helped set up with two other Trustees following the tragic loss of my son, Ben. The aim of the Charity is to raise awareness and educate people about Aortic Dissection. After the formal opening, there was a wonderful fire show and a Dance Performance by Dynamicmotiff
Thank you to all the volunteers who support with community decorations throughout Mid Derbyshire.
