On Friday, I had the pleasure of visiting Derby College and met with a number of politics students. I talked about my most rewarding and challenging experiences as a Member of Parliament - and how it is a privilege to represent my constituents in Mid Derbyshire. We discussed my private members bill - Marriage and Civil Partnership (Minimum Age) Act 2022; Brexit; Elections; UN Sustainable Goals; and finished with an in-depth Q&A session. To mark the occasion of International Women's Day we discussed the Suffragettes and the importance of the 'vote' - how to choose which party to vote for by understanding how a political party works and if the majority of the party's values align with theirs.
The students were very engaging and asked a variety of questions, including how to become involved with politics, and the process to becoming an MP. The morning was extremely interesting with enthusiastic students offering a range of fascinating questions.
