Office: The Office of Pauline Latham OBE MP for Mid-Derbyshire
Job Title: Caseworker
Reporting to: Pauline Latham OBE MP via the Office Manager
Location: Spondon Constituency Office
Hours: Part-time, 27.5 hours, Monday to Friday, 9.30 a.m. to 3.00 p.m.
Salary: In line with the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority pay scales.
Key responsibilities:
- Deal with daily queries from members of the public by phone or email, taking appropriate initial action to resolve, document or escalate their concerns or enquiries.
- Manage and progress casework, ensuring that all cases are logged, updated and outstanding queries are monitored and chased.
- Draft responses to constituents and liaise with the Member as appropriate.
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of relevant guidelines/legislation as appropriate in dealing with casework matters.
- To provide a range of IT and administrative support using Microsoft Office, email, internet, word, spreadsheets and the Cross Referencing System (the internal database system). Undertaking research and compiling databases as required.
- Ensure all cases are dealt with in a sensitive and confidential manner and adhere to the Data Protection Act.
- Attend surgeries and other meetings to assist the Member in dealing with constituents’ issues. This will require occasional late night/weekend work.
- To deal with incoming telephone calls as required and actioning as appropriate
- To assist with the organisation and co-ordination of events and meetings in the constituency. This will involve researching venues, possible attendees, contacting potential exhibitors and helping to produce event literature.
- Opening and dispatching mail as necessary. Undertaking photocopying, shredding scanning, formatting of documents, filing and assisting with mailouts.
- Assist with the monitoring and responses to campaign emails ensuring that they are dealt with quickly and efficiently.
- Any other duties as required relevant to the post and appropriate to the pay band as directed and agreed by the Member.
Upon appointment, the candidate will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO).
The salary will be in accordance with IPSA guidelines.

Experience:
Previous administrative and office experience – Essential
Previous Casework experience – Desirable
Skills and Aptitude
IT experience, use of Microsoft Office and Excel – Essential
Excellent written and communication skills – Essential

Excellent organisation skills, ability to prioritise workloads and use own initiative – Essential
Accurate and attention to detail - Essential

Knowledge

Education, Qualifications and Training
GCSE English or equivalent - Essential
A Levels or Equivalent, Post-School Qualification eg. HND/C, Degree or professional qualification - Desirable
Other
Clean Driving licence and access to a car – Desirable
Willing to work late/weekend work on occasion - Essential
