Pauline Latham OBE MP has welcomed the most recent announcement by the Office of National Statistics that unemployment remains at just 0.7% of the population in Mid-Derbyshire.
Youth unemployment in Mid-Derbyshire stood firm at 1.1% of the total population of 16-24 year olds in the constituency, just 65 people.
The news is even brighter nationally with the number of people in work at the highest there has ever been and the number of people unemployed at its lowest in nearly a decade.
The unemployment figures also showed wages have continued to rise at 2.2% in the past year and that the number of women in work stands at 69.1%, a record high after increasing by more than a million since 2010.
Pauline Latham has spoken of the good work being done in Mid-Derbyshire to train young people and give them the skills needed to be attractive to employers. To help do this Mrs Latham has announced a Graduate & Apprentice Fair taking place on Friday 13th May in The Atrium at the University of Derby’s Kedleston Road Campus between 1-3pm.
A large number of local businesses will be present who have graduate and apprenticeship opportunities. There will also be a CV clinic, so attendees can bring along a copy of their CV to see whether it can be improved. The event is event free all to attend.
Pauline Latham OBE MP said: “The unemployment figures for Mid-Derbyshire are very welcome and show the Government’s economic policies have been effective. I want to see the trend continue though and hope my Graduate and Apprentice Fair will help more people find a job or paid training. There is still more room for businesses so if you would like to exhibit please contact my constituency office on 01332 676 679 or email [email protected]
