Unemployment in Mid-Derbyshire at record low as over 1,000 people secure a job since May 2010 and youth unemployment falls below 1 per cent.
Pauline Latham OBE MP has hailed the latest unemployment figures for Mid-Derbyshire which show unemployment continues to fall, now standing at a record low of just 266 people, which is just 0.6 per cent of the working age population.
The figure is also a significant milestone for Mid-Derbyshire with over 1,000 jobs secured since May 2010 when the unemployment count stood at 1,267.
The trend is matched across the country where the employment rate is the highest in history at 73.9 per cent of people aged 16-64.
Youth unemployment in Mid-Derbyshire has also hit a milestone low, falling to below 1 per cent for the first time since May 2010. In November there were 50 people aged between 16-24 unemployed down from 350 in May 2010.
The national figures also show that average pay is up 2.4 per cent while inflation is close to flat. This means working people across Mid-Derbyshire are seeing their wages grow.
Pauline Latham OBE MP said: “ Today’s figures are good news for families in Mid-Derbyshire and come just in time for Christmas. With employment at a record high – driven by an increase in full-time work - and wages continuing to grow.
There is a lot of positive economic news at the moment. At the start of the month, as part of Small Business Saturday, I heard from businesses who are expanding and looking to move to bigger premises. Behind every one of these figures is someone with the security of a pay packet and the pride of a job. The hard work isn’t over but I am very pleased with the employment numbers released today”.
