Pauline Latham OBE MP has hailed Dementia Awareness Day in Belper a success with a large turnout for the event which aimed to raise awareness of Dementia and offer support and advice for those affected by it.
The day, which was hosted at the Strutts Centre in Belper, was organised by Mid-Derbyshire’s MP after the success of a previous Dementia Awareness event. Turnout was very high and the presenters on the day included the Alzheimer’s Society who focused on being aware of Dementia and getting support for it. The University of Derby also gave a talk on the free online course they are running for people to learn more about dementia. There was also a presentation by Accessible Belper on disabilities.
Outside the Centre the Alzheimer’s UK bus offered one-on-one advice sessions for those effected by Dementia including people who are caring for someone with the disease.
Speaking after the day ended Pauline Latham OBE MP said: “This Dementia Awareness Day has been a huge success. I want to thank everyone who attended and all the presenters for their presentations. I will be holding another Dementia Awareness Day in early 2016 to try and repeat the success of today”.
