Yesterday, Rolls-Royce announced huge investment and expansion plans at the Raynesway site in Mid Derbyshire. These plans will see the footprint of the site almost double, if planning permission is approved by the Council.
Earlier this year, I welcomed the Prime Minister’s announcement of the AUKUS submarine pact, and this expansion is necessary as a result of the pact, as well as increased demand from the Royal Navy.
This investment is anticipated to create over 1,000 skilled jobs locally, including in manufacturing, engineering and across the company. Of course, this will also have a knock-on effect on the local supply chain, and will be a significant boost for the local economy.
I am delighted with this investment, which supports jobs at all stages of careers, including for young people through the Nuclear Skills Academy, which enrols 200 new apprentices every year. The second intake will start at the Nuclear Skills Academy this September, and will be working on these key international projects.
