I was delighted to visit the Nuclear Skills Academy at Infinity Park last Friday. The NSA is a partnership between Rolls-Royce and the University of Derby, and is supported by industry and education experts. I was very impressed with the excellent classroom, workshop, and catering facilities that the Academy offers to its students.
The Academy opened its doors to the first intake of apprentices in September 2022, with a further 200 new apprentices expected to follow in their footsteps over the next decade. The apprenticeships are spread across all functions of the business including Engineering, Manufacturing and Business. They provide fully-funded further and higher education qualifications, while the apprentices receive hands-on practical work experience within the business.
With the growth in demand for carbon-free energy and the Ministry of Defence submarines contracts, these apprenticeships are likely to result in jobs for life.
