Pauline Latham OBE MP, the MP for Mid Derbyshire, donated food to a collection point on Saturday 3rd December as part of Tesco’s ninth Neighbourhood Food Collection – an annual food collection for those in need which takes place in partnership with charities FareShare and The Trussell Trust.
Mrs Latham donated food to the Tesco branch in Gregory’s Way, Belper to support the scheme. Since its creation, the Neighbourhood Food Collection has helped collect over 38 million meals for people in need. Customers donate food to the collection point and, in turn, Tesco top up customer donations by 20% (which helps provide additional support to people in need and, importantly, means that Tesco do not profit from items customers purchase to donate).
Mrs Latham said:
“I am very proud to help support those who are hungry and facing a difficult point in their lives, with times made especially hard by the cold winter months. It is also crucial to support this endeavour and celebrate the actions of the incredibly kind people across Mid Derbyshire who donate so generously, even when they themselves are often feeling the financial pinch of the Christmas period”.
