Earlier this month, I attended the Association of Ukrainians in GB (Derby Branch)’s annual Remembrance Day service, where Ukrainians remember those who gave their lives in defence of a free and independent Ukraine from 1945 to today.
It was a powerful and moving service, all the more so given the current situation in Ukraine, where many of those attending have friends or relatives fighting.
I was pleased to be invited to give remarks at the service, and also grateful to the Ukrainian community in Derbyshire for their kind words about my campaign to have the Holodomor recognised as a genocide against Ukrainians by the House of Commons. On 26th May, my motion was passed unanimously, and I will now continue the campaign to attempt to persuade the House of Lords to pass a similar motion.
