There is an opportunity for schools to take part in an educational visit to Parliament. A visit usually consists of an educational tour of the Palace of Westminster and a choice of age-appropriate workshops and if I am available, I would be more than happy to meet with you during your visit to answer any of your questions. A UK Parliament experience is a good opportunity to teach your students about how Parliament and democracy works.
The booking system for educational visits for Spring Term (January to March 2024) will open on Wednesday 4 October at 10:00. Schools can Subscribe to Parliament’s education newsletter to ensure they are notified when booking slots go live for future terms. To do this schools will need to create their own account on the online booking portal. We strongly recommend schools register and create an account on the bookings portal in advance so that they can view and book slots when they go live. Schools will need their postcode and organisation ID to register.
Eligible schools can already claim up to 75% of their travel costs back when they visit UK Parliament for a school trip. In light of the impact of cost-of-living on schools, a phased review of the travel subsidy scheme is taking place. The Education and Engagement Team are pleased to share that the Finance Committee have agreed and supported the first phase, meaning the maximum amount schools located in travel subsidy bands B and C can claim, has increased.
- Band B schools can claim a maximum of £1,000, up from £800
- Band C schools can claim a maximum claim of £2,000, up from £1,600
Schools can check which travel subsidy band they are in here. Visiting groups will be sent their travel subsidy claim form via e-mail after their visit.
